Worksheet:

Content of worksheet is below:

Storytelling

• Recall an incident in which you first became aware of differences. What was your reaction? Were you the focus of attention or were others? How did that affect how you reacted to the situation?

• What are the “messages” that you learned about various “minorities” or “majorities” when you were a child? At home? In school? Have your views changed considerably since then? Why or why not?

• Recall an experience in which your own difference put you in an uncomfortable position vis-à-vis the people directly around you. What was that difference? How did it affect you?

Change in venue on 1/29 for Community Mural Project

Tomorrow’s Diversity Dialogue session has been moved from Hilary Hall to the NHIOP Auditorium. It is still being held from 10am – 1pm. Questions can be directed to omahoney@anselm.edu.

The facilitator, Ellen Semran, has asked us to read the attached articles. They are both very short (combined total is less than 10 pages).

Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett
Christpher McElroen’s celebrated iconic post-Katrina nationally touring production

Friday, February 11, 2011
3:00 pm, Auditorium – Dana Center

Originally produced in association with The Classical Theatre of Harlem

In November 2007, Christopher McElroen partnered with renowned visual artist Paul Chan and New York public arts organization Creative Time to reach out into the New Orleans community to stage free site specific performances of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot in the Katrina-devastated neighborhoods of Gentilly and the Lower Ninth Ward. The Times-Picayune, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Nation, Artforum and NPR all followed the story of Godot in New Orleans, calling the project “incisive,” “inspired,” “remarkable,” “exemplary,” “ever-inventive,” and “multifaceted… various in form and meaning, communal, physically ephemeral yet socially and politically continuing.” Director Christopher McElroen, along with members of the cast of Waiting for Godot, gives an engaging multimedia presentation about this extraordinary community development through the arts initiative.
Digging deeper and using Godot in New Orleans as a roadmap, McElroen speaks to the challenges of producing site-specific theatre and the importance of building community ownership of political and socially relevant art and theatre.
