I thought the exercise employed in these two videos was thought provoking and constructive. However, I think that here at St. Anselm the purpose of such exercises has become a little bit obsolete. Of course racism still exists, but segregation does not. The brown-eyed kids from the first video, from 1970, would not be subject to the same treatment as third graders performing the same exercise would be today. Thirty one years of progress have not completely negated the need for considering racism and its detrimental impact on society, but certainly these videos are not as relevant as they once were.
